Maj. Gen. Paul R. Fast is the Commander, Fourth Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, March Air Reserve Base, California. In this role, he oversees strategic airlift and air refueling units stationed across the continental United States, Hawaii, and Guam. The Fourth Air Force is committed to ensuring that its assigned units and personnel are properly organized, trained, equipped, and prepared to support national security objectives across the full range of military operations, from contingencies to full-scale war. The command provides leadership, management, and oversight to 18 flying wings and one regional support group, delivering strategic airlift, airdrops, aeromedical evacuation, air refueling, and expeditionary support capabilities. The Fourth Air Force responsibilities span over 300 units and more than 32,000 personnel.
Maj. Gen. Fast received his commission in 1991 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Miami University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He served on active duty from September 1992 to September 2001. During that period, he accumulated more than 1,000 hours in the E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System at North American Treaty Organization (NATO) Air Base Geilenkirchen, Germany, and Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. In October 2001, Maj. Gen. Fast joined the Air Force Reserve as a traditional reservist. He has supported exercises and operations in the Indo-Pacific theater for 22 years. In 2023, Major General Fast served as the interim 36th Wing commander at Andersen Air Force Base and interim deputy commander of Joint Region Marianas, Guam, and led the reconstitution of Andersen Air Force Base after Super typhoon Mawar.
Prior to assuming his current role, Maj. Gen. Fast served as the Mobilization Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy, Integration, and Requirements at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia.
