Tuskegee Airmen honored at hockey game

MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, Calif. -- Original Tuskegee Airmen Ted Lumpkin and Levi Thornhill were honored as part of the Los Angeles Kings hockey team's Black History Month Celebration.  The two Tuskegee Airmen were honored during a pre-game ceremony and served as official captains for the game as well.

The evening's celebration also honored Willie O'Ree, the first black hockey player in the history of the National Hockey League.  O'Ree conducted the ceremonial puck drop prior to the game.

The Airmen and O'Ree were also honored before the game during a dinner, which was hosted by the L.A. Kings Foundation.

Airmen from the March Air Reserve Base Human Resources Development Council and Los Angeles Air Force Base's Gen. Bernard Randolph Chapter of Air Force Cadet Officer Mentoring Action program provided transportation and escort support for the Tuskegee Airmen who were honored.
